10/31/2011: Ulrich Sieber Receives Honorary Doctorate
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Ulrich Sieber was granted an honorary doctorate by the University of Athens.02/16/2011: Carl von Rotteck Prize Awarded to Tim Nikolas Müller
On February 11th, the University of Freiburg awarded the Carl von Rotteck Prize for the best doctoral dissertation within the law faculty to Tim Nikolas Müller, LL.M. Eur., M. Jur. (Oxford). Tim Müller was accepted as a research scholar at the "International Max Planck Research School for Comparative Criminal Law" (IMPRS-CC) in 2007. He completed his dissertation "Präventiver Freiheitsentzug als Instrument der Terrorismusbekämpfung in Deutschland" [Preventive Detention as an Instrument Against Terrorism in Germany] under the supervison of Prof. Sieber. He began teaching at the University of Freiburg in summer 2008. His dissertation will be published in the series "Reports on Research in Criminal Law" in conjunction with the "Research Series of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law."10/12/2010: Honorary Doctorate Awarded to Ulrich Sieber

On 1 March 2008, the president of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science appointed Priv.-Doz. Dr. phil. Dietrich Oberwittler, a senior researcher in the Department of Criminology, to a “W2” position as a leader of a research group for a period of five years.In addition, Oberwittler received a teaching authorization from the University of Freiburg for sociology, a status he had previously held at the University of Bielefeld; he is now a Privatdozent at Freiburg’s Institute for Sociology.
