Main Research:
Sonja Brauner is presently involved with the project Sexual Offenders in the Social-Therapeutic Institutions of the Free State of Saxony. In light of this project, Sonja Brauner is writing her dissertation thesis on the life-course of sexual offenders after release – An empirical study concerning life choices and recidivism. Furthermore, her research interests also cover the effectiveness of offender therapy.
Academic Background:
Upon graduating from secondary school, Sonja Brauner went on to study psychology at the Otto-Friedrich-University of Bamberg between 1998 and 2004. During her studies she completed a three month internship at the Westfälischen Zentrum für Forensische Psychiatrie in Lippstadt. Her diploma thesis concerned the effectiveness of inpatient group therapy of sex offenders in the context of forensic psychiatry. As of March 2007 she has been writing her doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law.
Additional Qualifications and Activities:
In addition to her academic work Sonja Brauner is also enrolled in a vocational training program for psychotherapy (with an emphasis on behavioural therapy).
