Main Research:

Within her PhD proposal, supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Jörg Albrecht, Anna-Maria Getoš conducts theoretical and empirical research on political violence in the Balkans. She is developing a criminological analysis dealing with the crime phenomena terrorism and hate (bias) crime.

Academic Background:

Anna-Maria Getoš was born in 1979 in Leutkirch im Allgäu. After completing her secondary education at the Linguistic Gymnasium in Osijek (Croatia) in 1997 she studied criminal justice at the Higher Police School in Zagreb (Croatia).

After gaining her higher education diploma in 2002, she successfully completed the Master of Law Program (LL.M.) at the Faculty of Law at the University of Freiburg in the summer of 2004 (summa cum laude), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Jörg Albrecht as a DAAD Fellow. For her published thesis "Präventive Terrorismusbekämpfung in Übergangsgesellschaften" (Terrorism Prevention in Transitional Societies) she was awarded the Annual Award for Junior Scientists by the Society of University Professors and other Scientists of the Zagreb University. In April 2005 her PhD proposal was accepted at the Faculty of Law at the University of Freiburg. Besides the DAAD, Anna-Maria Getoš’ scientific work has been supported by the Croatian Ministry of Science and the Max Planck Society.

Since spring 2005 Anna-Maria Getoš has been working in Zagreb (Croatia), where she spent one year as project manager in the Croatian Ministry of Science (Department for European Integration), before she took up her current position as instructor/assistant professor at the Department for Criminal Law at the Zagreb Faculty of Law in February 2006. Besides teaching criminological and criminal law university courses, she regularly lectures international and Croatian graduate and post-graduate courses and is involved in several Croatian and international research projects.
