Main Research:

The growth of the casino industry in the Asia-Pacific region and the corresponding impact this has on both money laundering and anti-money laundering strategies.

Academic Background:

Chris Murphy was born in Melbourne, Australia. Upon completing his formal schooling he went on to study a combined Arts/Law degree at the Australian National University in Canberra. In 2003 Chris completed his tertiary studies and graduated from the Australian National University with an honours degree. His honours thesis concerned an analysis of quantitative restrictions and the free movement of goods within the European Union. Chris then completed his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
In 2005 Chris undertook an internship at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany and upon completion accepted an employment offer from the Department of Criminology to provide legal translation and proofreading services for the growing number of English publications. As of 2007 he is also writing a doctoral thesis on the growth of the casino industry in the Asia-Pacific region and the impact this has on money laundering.
