From 2000 to 2006, Jana Rauschenbach studied undergraduate psychology (with an emphasis on forensic psychology) at the universities of Dresden, Bremen and Leipzig. Her undergraduate diploma thesis was entitled ‘Personality and Internet Sexuality: An empirical study of men in the second half of life’ (supervised by PD Dr. Kurt Seikowski). After graduation she mastered in international criminology at the University of Hamburg between 2006 and 2008. Her master’s thesis was inspired by an internship at the homicide division of the Hamburg Crime Investigation Authority (LKA) and was entitled ‘The Rhythm of Murder: an empirical study on the likelihood of homicide in Hamburg’ (supervised by Prof. Dr. Peter Wetzels). The thesis was conducted in cooperation with the Hamburg LKA.

Upon graduating from the University of Hamburg, Jana Rauschenbach worked for some time in the field of family support and assistance. From 2011 onwards she has been employed as a researcher in the evaluative project Sexual Offenders in the Social Therapeutic Institutions of the Free State of Saxony at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law. She is responsible for data collection in the prisons and social therapeutic institutions involved in the study, as well as data collection from the offenders after they have been released.
