Jan Spoenle
Researcher
Main Research:
Jan Spoenle specializes in Information Law and Criminal Procedure Law. His main interest is in cybercrime and cyberterrorism, their phenomenology and ways to combat these threats legally and technically.
Therefore, he focusses on research related to new methods for criminal investigations, e.g. the covert online access to a suspects computer data, and new ways to deal with digital data with respect to criminal proceedings. The (further) development of legal safeguards for civil rights concerning the growing digitalisation of personal data and private information is another important aspect of his work.
His dissertation project examines the legal and practical problems in prosecuting cybercrime. The goal of his project is to localize and analyze difficulties which result from the technical complexity of criminal actions committed through the use of the Internet. Methodically, he aims to interview expert practicioners and examine the legal foundation of cybercrime investigations in Germany as well as European and other international influences and guidelines.
