Maria Walsh is specialized in the science of education and currently pursuing a doctorate to evaluate the regional court of Munich’s (Landgericht München I) "Rubikon" model probation project. The Rubikon project aims to comprehensively monitor the probation of juvenile and adolescent repeat offenders. Furthermore, Maria Walsh is interested in research questions surrounding juvenile imprisonment, juvenile delinquency, and the prevention of addiction and criminality.

Academic Background:

Born in Erding/Germany, Maria Walsh majored in educational studies and minored in criminology and psychology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Prior to her studies, she spent a year working with disadvantaged children and adolescents and gained experience in the area of special learning needs. At university, she continued to undergo practical training, including an internship with the Munich Commission for Behavioral and Technical Prevention and Victim Protection, where she worked on the study "Efficacy of the Proactive Approach in the Context of Domestic Violence" as a student assistant. She earned her M.A. in July 2011 with an empirical analysis of "Education in Juvenile Correctional Facilities – The Subjective Perception of the Implementation of Laws and Regulations from Various Perspectives." She has been employed as a researcher in the Department of Criminology at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law since August 2011.
