Main Research:

Within the framework of his dissertation supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Ulrich Sieber, Zunyou Zhou is working on the research project Counter-Terrorism Legislation: Balancing Security and Liberty in Germany and China. In this project, anti-terror legislation of both countries will be analyzed and the underlying basic values and principles discussed.

Academic Background:

Zunyou Zhou was born in Anhui Province, China, in 1973. He studied English at the Anhui Institute of Education (Hefei) from 1994 to 1996 and earned an LL.M. from Renmin University of China (Beijing) in 1999 with the thesis "Criminal Investigation of Drug-Related Crimes." Thereafter, Zunyou Zhou studied European law at the University of Salzburg, Austria, for one year. From September 2005 to June 2006, he studied criminal law in a doctoral program at Macau University of Science and Technology, China. Awarded a DAAD scholarship, he transferred to the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law, where he was admitted into the International Max Planck Research School for Comparative Criminal Law (IMPRS-CC) in March 2007.
