The Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany, attracts researchers from around the world. The Institute gives researchers an excellent opportunity to pursue individual research goals in the areas of criminal law, criminal procedure, and criminology within a specified time-frame and, if desired, to present their results to academic peers in the form of a brief presentation. The physical proximity to and close cooperation with the University of Freiburg round off the comprehensive support offered to researchers here.
The Institute hosts a large number of visiting scholars from across the globe every year. Unfortunately, not all potential guests can be accepted by the Institute as the existing infrastructure (workspace, IT support, etc.) makes a limitation according to capacity necessary. For this reason, we recommend that you submit your application in a timely manner, especially for the peak summer months (June to August).
If you would like to use the library for your research within the framework of a short stay (up to five days), we kindly ask you to fill out the online application form Short-Term Library Access and forward it to the head of the library.
Applications for a longer stay should be sent to:
Department of Criminal Law: Dr. Johanna Rinceanu, LL.M., E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Department of Criminology: Dr. Volker Grundies, E-mail: email@example.com
Your written application (submission also possible via e-mail) should also include:
- curriculum vitae
- current passport photograph
- list of publications
- research proposal
(for a stay of up to one month at the Max Planck Institute, a one-page proposal is sufficient; if the duration of your stay will be longer than one month, please submit a two- to three-page proposal)
This application procedure also applies to potential guests who have a grant from another institution.
