Russian-German Criminal Law Seminar

The Russian-German Criminal Law Seminar was organized within the framework of the cooperation between the Faculty of Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University (Prof. Dr. Vladimir Komissarov and Dr. Gleb Bogush) and the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sieber). The event followed in the spirit and tradition of the seminars initiated by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Heinrich Jescheck and the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Academician Prof. Vladimir Kudryavtsev) in the early Eighties.

The title of this event was “Criminal Liability of Legal Persons.” The speakers and participants discussed the Russian and German legal developments in this field in Russia and in the European Union. The seminar was attended by leading academics in the fields of criminal and administrative law as well as by the deputy minister of justice of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Legal Department of the Russian Presidential Administration, the Supreme Commercial Court, international law firms, and the media.

The team of the Max Planck Institute was headed by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sieber and composed of Dr. Els de Busser and Dr. Marc Engelhart, together with Prof. Dr. Klaus Rogall of the Freie Universität Berlin. The delegation of the MPI visited the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and met with its vice president, Judge Anatoly Petrochenkov, who is president of the Penal Chamber. At the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University, the delegation met the dean, Professor Alexander Golichenkov, and discussed the future cooperation of the two institutions.
