Tatjana Hörnle appointed as new director at the MPI for Foreign and International Criminal Law

Crim­in­al law schol­ar Tat­jana Hörnle takes up her new po­s­i­tion on 1 June.


Prof. Dr. Tat­jana Hörnle takes up her of­fice as new Dir­ect­or of the MPI for For­eign and In­ter­na­tion­al Crim­in­al Law in Freiburg on June 1, 2019. She will ini­tially take up her po­s­i­tion in a part-time ca­pa­city, re­sum­ing her full-time re­spons­ib­il­it­ies on Oc­to­ber 1, 2019. She will head the De­part­ment of Crim­in­al Law at the MPI. Her main areas of ex­pert­ise in­clude crim­in­al and crim­in­al­iz­a­tion the­ory, ques­tions of crim­in­al re­spons­ib­il­ity and sexu­al crim­in­al law.

Tat­jana Hörnle joins the MPI from Hum­boldt Uni­versity, Ber­lin, where she has held the Chair of Crim­in­al Law, Crim­in­al Pro­ced­ure Law, Leg­al Philo­sophy and Com­par­at­ive Law since 2009. Pre­vi­ously, she was Pro­fess­or of Crim­in­al Law, Crim­in­al Pro­ced­ure Law and Philo­sophy of Law at the Ruhr Uni­versity Bo­chum.

Tat­jana Hörnle is a full mem­ber of the Ber­lin-Branden­burg Academy of Sci­ences and Hu­man­it­ies and a cor­res­pond­ing mem­ber of the Academy of Sci­ences and Lit­er­at­ure Mainz. In 2017, she was elec­ted a mem­ber of the Ger­man Academy of Sci­ences Leo­pold­ina.
