Tatjana Hörnle appointed as new director at the MPI for Foreign and International Criminal Law

Pro­fess­or Dr. Tat­jana Hörnle takes up her new po­s­i­tion on 1 June.

Prof. Dr. Tat­jana Hörnle has been dir­ect­or at the MPI for For­eign and In­ter­na­tion­al Crim­in­al Law in Freiburg since 1 June 2019. Serving ini­tially in a part-time ca­pa­city, she will as­sume full-time re­spons­ib­il­it­ies on 1 Oc­to­ber 2019. She will head the De­part­ment of Crim­in­al Law at the MPI. Her main areas of ex­pert­ise in­clude the the­or­ies of pun­ish­ment and crim­in­al­iz­a­tion, ques­tions of crim­in­al re­spons­ib­il­ity, and the law of sexu­al of­fenses.

Tat­jana Hörnle joins the MPI from the Hum­boldt-Uni­versität zu Ber­lin, where she has held the chair for crim­in­al law, crim­in­al pro­ced­ure, leg­al philo­sophy, and com­par­at­ive law since 2009. Pre­vi­ously, she was a pro­fess­or of crim­in­al law, crim­in­al pro­ced­ure, and leg­al philo­sophy at the Ruhr-Uni­versität Bo­chum.

Tat­jana Hörnle is an or­din­ary mem­ber of the Ber­lin-Branden­burg Academy of Sci­ences and Hu­man­it­ies and a cor­res­pond­ing mem­ber of the Academy of Sci­ences and Lit­er­at­ure Mainz. In 2017, she was elec­ted to the Ger­man Na­tion­al Academy of Sci­ences Leo­pold­ina.
