Prof. Dr. Tatjana Hörnle takes up her office as new Director of the MPI for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg on June 1, 2019. She will initially take up her position in a part-time capacity, resuming her full-time responsibilities on October 1, 2019. She will head the Department of Criminal Law at the MPI. Her main areas of expertise include criminal and criminalization theory, questions of criminal responsibility and sexual criminal law.
Tatjana Hörnle joins the MPI from Humboldt University, Berlin, where she has held the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Legal Philosophy and Comparative Law since 2009. Previously, she was Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Philosophy of Law at the Ruhr University Bochum.
Tatjana Hörnle is a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz. In 2017, she was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
