Prof. Dr. Tatjana Hörnle has been director at the MPI for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg since 1 June 2019. Serving initially in a part-time capacity, she will assume full-time responsibilities on 1 October 2019. She will head the Department of Criminal Law at the MPI. Her main areas of expertise include the theories of punishment and criminalization, questions of criminal responsibility, and the law of sexual offenses.
Tatjana Hörnle joins the MPI from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where she has held the chair for criminal law, criminal procedure, legal philosophy, and comparative law since 2009. Previously, she was a professor of criminal law, criminal procedure, and legal philosophy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
Tatjana Hörnle is an ordinary member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz. In 2017, she was elected to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
