on
Prevention, Investigation, and Sanctioning of Economic Crime

Freiburg 2018 AIDP Conference and International Colloquium
on Section III of the XXth AIDP International Congress of Penal Law

Prevention, Investigation, and Sanctioning of Economic Crime

Freiburg, Germany
18–20 June 2018 (General Conference)
20–21 June 2018 (International Colloquium – reporters & special guests only)
22–23 June 2018 (Fifth Symposium for Young Penalists – Jeunes Pénalistes)

Overview

Object and Aim of the Conference

Crime control in today’s risk society is increasingly shifting from traditional repressive criminal law to alternative preventive systems, such as intelligence law. This process is illustrated most interestingly in the field of economic crime, with new regimes of administrative criminal law, money laundering regulations, non-conviction-based confiscation, and private compliance regimes. This challenging process of amending and replacing criminal law by alternative systems will be the focus of the upcoming conference “Prevention, Investigation, and Sanctioning of Economic Crime” at our Institute.

Organised by the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law and the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP) in cooperation with leading European universities, it will take place in Freiburg/Germany from 18 to 20 June 2018. The event will be held in honour of the 80th birthday of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus Tiedemann, the founder of modern German economic criminal law. The draft programme and the organisational details are annexed.

One of the aims of the conference is to develop policy recommendations for an improved control of economic crime. These recommendations will be the basis of the upcoming XXth AIDP International Congress of Penal Law in Rome (2019). They will concentrate on two core questions: How effectively can such alternative systems control economic crime, and what human rights guarantees should they contain?

Since the conference is limited to about 170 leading experts in the field of economic crime, participation is primarily based on personal invitations and a regime of rolling admissions and the principle of first come and first served. It would be a pleasure and honour for us if you would participate! If you would like to attend, please register, using the following online registration form: https://www.conftool.net/aidp2018, as early as possible in order to get a place.

In case of your participation, please also book your hotel soon, since in June the tourist season will already start in Freiburg.

For detailed information on all organisational questions, please see the tab link above on organisational details ("Organisation").
